We still have plenty of tickets for the Youth & Family Services Kids Fair taking place this Friday-Sunday (20-22 April) @ the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. We are now giving FREE tickets to any ID Card holders. Tickets can be picked up @ the A&FRC between 07:30-1630 today through Friday. Tickets will be given out on a first come, first serve basis until they are gone. MARCH IS NATIONAL BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS MONTH

Did you know………………..  according to the Brain Injury Association of America, the oldest and largest nationwide brain injury advocacy organization, that a tramatic brain injury is a blow, jolt or bump to the head or a penatrating head injury that disrupts normal brain function?  (See below for more TBI facts from the BIAA.)

  • About 75% of TBIs (Tramatic Brain Injuries) that occur are mild head injuries (TBIs) like concussions
  • TBI is a contributing factor to 1/3 of all injury-related deaths in the U.S.A.
  • .TBIs are caused by:  falls (35%), car crashes (17%), workplace accidents (16%), assaults (10%), other causes (2%)
  • 1.365 million people will be treated and relased from an ER, 275,000 will be hospitalized and 52,000 will die from TBI
  • 1.7 million people (475,000 of them are children) who sustain a TBI yearly.
  • 3.1 million people live with life-long disabilities due to TBI

WHAT: Lunch Bag Learning
WHEN: Thursday, February 16th from Noon-1 p.m.
WHERE: Rapid City Public Library, Hoyt Room
WHY: This presentation will focus on identifying and investigating possible causes and treatments of self-harm/cutting behaviors, expecially in our teens. It will also lend ideas to how families and professionals can help the teen deal with precipitating factors.
WHO: Dr. Eric Traub, Clinical Psychologist, is the guest speaker
