According to to the Glaucoma Research Foundation, Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness. All ages are at risk for Glaucoma, from newborns to the elderly. (Believe it or not, 10,000 babies are born each year with Glaucoma!) The best way to protect your sight from glaucoma is to get regular eye exams. Then, if glaucoma is found, treatment can begin immediately which may help to prevent unnecessary vision loss.

In the January 2012 issue of “THE EXCEPTIONAL ADVOCATE” there is an article titled: Bullying and Your Child With Special Needs. There is some strong information on the topic of Disability Harassment which is identified as bullying based on a person’s disability. Although South Dakota doesn’t have state bullying laws or policies, bullying is illegal under Section 504 of the Rehabilitiation Act of 1973 and under Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990.
Check out this article found in the Wall Street Journal, online. In it, author Laura Saunders outlines information about possible tax deductions for special education and medical expenses; many of which are unknown to most of us. With tax season just around the corner it is a good idea to take a look!
